Raskeste maraton noensinne
Kenyaneren Geoffrey Mutai noterte 2.03.02 i Boston Marathon. Men løypa har for mye fall til å få godkjent tiden som verdensrekord.
Også mannen på andreplass Moses Mosop løp raskere enn gjeldende verdensrekord på 2.03.59 som ble satt av Haile Gebrselassie i Berlin 2008. Hele 8 mann løp under 2.08
Mutais tidligere personlige rekord var på 2.04.55 da han ble nr.2 i Rotterdam Marathon i 2010.
I kvinneklassen ble det også kenyansk ved Caroline Kilel som vant med meget liten margin 2:22:36, nr.2 Deiree Davila, USA 2:22:38 og nr.3 Sharon Cherop, Kenya 2:22:42.
