Nina Wavik Ytterstad tok andreplass i klasse 50-54 år med 2:56:03 under meget tøffe værforhold med piskende regn og svært kald temperatur. 37 norske løp den 119. utgaven av Boston Marathon.
Kenyanske Caroline Rotich gjorde sitt livs løp og vant med fire sekunder på Mare Dibaba fra Etiopia. I herreklassen ble det etiopisk seier ved Lelisa Desisa på 2:09:17, som også vant i 2013. Det var enda tettere kamp om seieren i kvinneklassen enn de fire sekundene skulle tilsi. Avgjørelsen falt helt på slutten etter hard fight hele den siste kilometeren. Dibaba med årets beste tid så langt, 2:19:52 i Xiamen, innrømmet at: “I was confident that I could win, but at the end I saw I would have to settle for second.”
Rotich løp Boston Marathon første gang i 2011 da hun ble nr. 4, men hennes første maratonseier kom i Praha Maraton i 2013. Hennes personlige rekord ble satt i Chicago i 2012: med 2:23:22
Joyce Chepkirui, den afrikanske mester på 10 000 m, ble nr.10 på tiden 2:29:07 og var den eneste som satte personlig rekord blant de 10 beste for kvinner og menn.

Lelisa Desisa tok sin første maratonseier siden han vant Boston i 2013. Han ble nr. 2 i VM i Moskva, fullførte ikke i Boston i 2014 og tapte en duell med Wilson Kipsang i New York City i fjor høst. I januar ble det nok en andreplass i Dubai.
Han var en meget populær vinner i Boston da seiersintervjuet handlet om Boston hele veien. Som han sa det etter løpet: "I took off my hat and started waving my hands because I love the Boston people. Nå er han den første etiopier som har vunnet Boston Marathon to ganger i dette århundrede.

Nina i maratonløpet i Frankfurt i 2012 da hun satte klasserekord i 50-54 år med 2:51:04
Nina Wavik Ytterstad gjorde nok et godt maratonløp og det under svært krevende forhold.
2:56:03 holdt til andreplass i klasse 50-54 år
Etter løpet sa Nina følgende til kondis.no:
«Det ble veldig tungt. Været var dessverre ikke på vår side, og at dette var ikke en perseløype for meg, fikk jeg erfare. Ingen særlige vondter, bare helt tom. Et flott løp med et fantastisk publikum. Helt utrolig motiverende, selv i striregnet. Men godfølelsen fra Tokyo var dessverre forduftet.»

Etter Boston Marathopn skrev Peter Tørstad Thommesen: "Stolt sønn og utslitt mor!! Skal det ikke være omvendt? Tidenes prestasjon i skikkelig drittvær!" Marit Tørstad, RYE satte pers med ett sekund fra Holmestrand Maraton i 2014.
